VERY POSITIVE REACTION IN IRELAND

“It’s great to see this project come to fruition. It is a terrific win for Newcastle West, for Limerick and the wider region, especially as it’s the company’s first investment outside the US. Ortec’s plans to quickly scale up its operations here demonstrates a firm commitment which will be of significant benefit in terms of jobs and benefit to the local community. I wish Christopher and his team every success here.”

– Martin Shanahan – CEO of IDA Ireland –

WHY NEWCASTLE WEST?

Ortec began searching for a European site a few years ago, and quickly established a good working relationship with the IDA. The company was already supplying materials to the existing pharmaceutical and medical device community in Europe, and the business friendly environment gave Ireland an immediate advantage. A well-educated, native English speaking populace made the choice even easier. The company assessed several sites throughout the country before settling on County Limerick.

There were several things that influenced the decision; The Limerick City and County Council were very proactive in soliciting our interest to the area; The local developers; Access to Shannon Airport; Access to Limerick City; Access to Limerick Institute of Technology and University of Limerick both for graduates and for potential technical collaboration.

However, one of the main attractions of Newcastle West was its provincial location. Ortec’s founders and owners, the Brotherton family, come originally from a farming community. The family values the rural ethos and felt an instant connection with the people there.
